Shourideh Shirazi and Stylistic Characteristics of his Diwan

Zahra Esfandiari Pour, Ahmad Khatami(Author in Charge)

Abstract

Shourideh Shirazi (1859-1926) a great blind contemporary poet of Iran. Unfortunately, he has not gained a lot of attention during the years. Shourideh, who is considered one of the poets of the literary restoration period, was a prolific poet who composed various types of poems. He has certain special innovations when it comes to format and content. The current study tries to evaluate his 15000-copulet diwan in order to investigate his poetic style at linguistic, literary, and intellectual levels. It tries to identify the main differentiating aspects and factors of Shourideh’s poems. Highlighting words and combinations; utilizing vulgar idioms and slangs; using local words, allusions, and allegories; humor and comedy; critical spirit; and aggressiveness towards social and economic inequalities are among the most important characteristics in his poems.
